I am a journalist from Nome, Alaska. I primarily focus on print stories as well as photography. I have moved around the state to attend the University of Alaska Fairbanks and work for various publications. I have a degree in Science and Environmental Journalism – a topic I am very drawn to. In my time as a reporter, I have covered various beats including: breaking news, environmental impact stories, feature reporting.

Growing up in Nome taught me a great deal about reporting on environmental issues. I grew up in the newsroom of Alaska’s oldest newspaper, The Nome Nugget. My parents own and operate the Nugget. Seeing their coverage of climate based issues as well as covering local stories weekly showed me what kind of a reporter I wanted to be when I grew up.

Stories I am most drawn to involve topics that the community or broader public needs to know as soon as possible. This could be anything from a policy change that could impact that area to a event or recognizing when community member’s receive awards.

When not at work, I can often be found outside, whether that is road biking in the summer or skiing or mushing in the winter.
